LANSING, Mich. — An 11-year-old boy decided to forgo his own birthday party so he could throw a thank you party for police, CBS News reported.

Troubled by the rise of anti-police sentiment, Jeremie Bordua wanted to find a way to show officers he appreciated their hard work.

“I didn’t know it was going to be this big, really,” Jeremie told CBS. “I’m throwing them the thank you party to show them I still appreciate them.”

In order to pay for the party, Jeremie and his mother began to sell homemade cookies at $5 a dozen, Lansing State Journal reported. They were able to raise over $10,000 from the cookies and donations from a GoFundMe site.

Once word got out about Jeremie’s party, more than 100 officers showed up from all over the country.

“We’re human beings and that’s what he sees in us,” Deputy James Revell, who drove to Michigan from Georgia to attend the party, told the publication.

“There just aren’t kids like that,” Gary Hall, who flew in from Los Angeles, told CBS.

Jeremie, who dreams of being an officer himself someday, was made an honorary member of the Lansing Police Department for his efforts. He was given a real uniform complete with a badge.
