INDIANAPOLIS — An Indiana state trooper who filmed a PSA encouraging drivers to use their turn signal has gone viral on social media.

Sgt. John Perrine, the spokesman for the Indianapolis division for the agency, posted a short video on his Facebook page about the “often forgotten, incredible safety feature that is standard on all vehicles.”

“The auto industry has made incredible advancements on technology and safety in vehicles, but what if I told you there was a feature on every car that is standards that will not only help prevent crashes, but also help prevent road rage?” he said, while demonstrating how to use the turn signal.

He said drivers might need to put down their coffee or cell phones to properly use the turn signal while driving. The message? Drivers should use their turn signal because “it’s not only against the law not to use it, but it’s the courteous thing to do,” Perrine said.

The video was shared more than 75,000 times from his Facebook page, and was widely shared on other websites including Twitter and Reddit.
