POLK COUNTY, Fla. — Merrick Loyd, an elementary preschooler, has spent the last six months undergoing chemotherapy in his fight with cancer. Despite his hardships, the young boy was able to live out his dream last week of becoming a sheriff’s deputy.
According to WTSP, Merrick told his family about his dream, and his teachers and the sheriff’s office worked together to make it happen. Merrick got to meet Polk County Sheriff Grady Judd, 911 dispatchers and the SWAT team. He also was given a custom uniform to wear and backpack full of gifts.
“When the school and community come together, beautiful things happen,” said the Carlton Palmore Elementary School in a Facebook post. “We believe in making dreams come true here in Polk County!”
The sheriff’s office also shared photos of the meeting.
“Dream big, Merrick! It was wonderful getting to know you, your teachers and your family this week,” the sheriff’s office wrote on Facebook.
