NEW YORK — Two officers with the New York Police Department sprung into action when a subway commuter fell onto the tracks.
The man fell onto the subway tracks after suffering a medical emergency, NYPD said.
According to WPIX, a person told two officers who were patrolling the subway station that a man on the platform “appeared sick.”
The officers ran over and found the 68-year-old man unresponsive on the tracks.
Without hesitation, the two officers jumped down to the tracks, placing themselves in a dangerous situation, and lifted the unresponsive man off the tracks.
Body-worn camera video shows bystanders helping officers get the man onto the platform.
The NYPD praised the officers for their bravery during the situation.
“When a male fell into the train tracks after having a medical episode, without hesitation Officers Baez and Hall jumped into the train tracks, placing themselves in a perilous situation, lifted the unresponsive adult over tracks onto the platform to safety,” a tweet from the NYPD’s 81st Precinct said.
