The cup has been sold to police, athletes, and private military contractors

HIGH RDIGE, Mo. — A bullet-proof jockstrap is to be tested by the US army.

The Armored Nutshellz was originally made to protect martial arts fighters.

But inventor Jeremiah Raber, of Missouri, contacted military bosses after finding the Kevlar device could stop bullets from a 9mm handgun and .22 calibre pistol.

The inventor spent nearly $100,000 perfecting the kit and boasts: “It’s a bullet resistant groin protection device — it is the world’s strongest cup.”

A recent US Army report found that around 1,000 troops a year receive injuries to the groin area from shrapnel or bullets.

Mr Raber believes the cups, which cost $125 each, will prevent many of the injuries.
