SPRINGFIELD, Ill. — A new law will enable some law enforcement officers in Illinois to retire earlier.
According to The Center Square, House Bill 1568, signed into law Friday, lowers the retirement age from 60 to 55 for certain law enforcement officers. Those eligible include state troopers, investigators for the Secretary of State, Department of Revenue, Illinois Gaming Board and investigators for the Office of the Attorney General.
The state was recently ranked among the top five locations for law enforcement in a report by WalletHub. However, Center Square reported that the state also has the worst unfunded pension liability in the nation at $140 billion.
