PHILADELPHIA — Philly police chased an ambulance Tuesday after getting a call from a trapped employee inside of the vehicle who said that the driver wouldn’t let him out.
The incident began when police spotted the NovoCare ambulance parked in an area it shouldn’t have been. According to authorities, the vehicle should have been at a hospital for a pick-up.
Police contacted the ambulance company, who in turn contacted the driver, according to CBS Philly.
While he told the company that he was at one location, the GPS tracking device inside of the vehicle stated otherwise, the report said. His manager told him he was fired and to return the ambulance to headquarters, but he responded with threats.
He allegedly said he was taking the ambulance home. The passenger in the ambulance, another NovoCare employee, then called police to inform them that he was being held “against his will.”
Pursuit of the ambulance lasted less than an hour. When it ended, there were at least 10 police cars surrounding the ambulance.
State police took the driver into custody. No charges have been filed.
