Chico Enterprise-Record
A Chico man who ignored attempts by a California Highway Patrol officer to pull him over for speeding on Hamilton Nord Cana Highway early Monday morning, was chased at speeds up to 120 mph before he crashed and was taken into custody.
The fleeing man, Jamie E. McQuiston, 36, raced along Hamilton Nord Cana and Anita Road for about five minutes.
McQuiston pulled into a driveway in the 4800 block of Anita, then drove into an orchard, where his vehicle struck a fence.
The CHP car pulled behind the suspect’s vehicle in an attempt to block it, but McQuiston allegedly accelerated in reverse and collided with the patrol car, damaging the front bumper.
McQuiston then drove into the orchard, where his vehicle struck a drainage ditch and became disabled.
He ran from the crash scene, but was caught seconds later, at about 1:45 a.m.
The suspect faces charges of felony evading, assault with a deadly weapon, driving under the influence of a drug, hit-and-run, and driving on a suspended license.
McQuiston was also found to have no insurance, and wasn’t wearing a seat belt during the chase.
He was booked into the Butte County Jail in Oroville, with bail set at $49,000.
