Former officer convicted of eluding N.H. police

FARMINGTON, N.H.- A former Farmington police officer has been convicted of eluding police in Durango, Colo.

A jury deliberated 9 1/2 hours before convicting Jason Nagl on Thursday. He is free on bond pending sentencing Aug. 25.

The charge - vehicular eluding - carries a one- to three-year prison sentence.

Nagl declined comment Thursday, but his lawyer, Arlon Stoker, said the verdict was disappointing. The two had not decided whether to appeal the decision.

Nagl, an 11-year veteran of the Farmington Police Department, was accused of fleeing from a Colorado State Patrol officer last October after leaving a bar in Gem Village, Colo., east of Durango.

Colorado authorities said a trooper tried to stop Nagl’s vehicle when he was clocked at 58 mph in a 50 mph zone. Police said Nagl drove until his vehicle struck a barbed wire fence. Authorities said Nagl fled on foot and did not turn himself in until the next day.

Nagl was fired from the Farmington force after an internal affairs investigation into his arrest.
