Eighteen New York state troopers have completed a 19-week training program and joined the elite unit called upon by the state police in cases of terrorism or other life-and-death emergencies.
The new members, designated by state police officials in a ceremony on Friday, put the size of the Mobile Response Team at 39.
Team members must complete several exercises, including climbing Mount Marcy, the tallest Adirondack mountain peak, and spending three days on the mountain in sub-zero temperatures in March; rappel from a helicopter 150 feet in the air and down a five-story building; and learning how to find wanted or dangerous people in the wilderness.
