ALHAMBRA, Calif. - An officer was killed early Sunday morning when his vehicle crashed with another police cruiser as both responded to a robbery call.
26-year-old Ryan Stringer was responding to a call at 2:30 a.m. when the collision occurred.
A witness indicated the other cruiser may have run through a red light and broadsided Stringer’s vehicle.
Both were transported to Huntington Memorial Hospital, where Stringer succumbed to his injuries. The second officer, who has not been named, is in stable condition and is expected to survive.
“Officer Stringer was a very energetic, very friendly police officer, very well-liked by other members of the department and the community,” Yokoyama told KABC.
Stringer had just recently returned to work after a bad off-duty motorcycle accident a year ago. He collided with a semi truck on his way to work.
He is the 4th Alhambra officer to be killed in the line of duty.
