CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. — A police sergeant died from a heart attack after working three 16-hour shifts in a row, according to the Officer Down Memorial Page.
Sergeant Mike Russ, 56, was working at the Blue Cross Bowl in Finley stadium for three consecutive days, in addition to his other work at court as a liaison and at the Emergency Operations Center, according to the page.
On Dec. 2, he went home to file paperwork, where he suffered a heart attack. Despite resuscitation efforts, he was unable to be revived.
Sgt. Russ was a U.S. Navy veteran and a 16-year veteran of the Chattanooga Police Department, according to the page. He is survived by his wife, mother, brother, nieces and nephew.
