The Partner Alliance for Safer Schools (PASS) is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization supporting efforts by communities throughout the U.S. to provide and sustain a level of security appropriate to each district and K-12 facility, recognizing that making schools safer is both achievable and urgently needed. We bring together expertise from education, public safety, and industry communities to develop and support a coordinated approach to effective and appropriate decisions concerning safety and security investments. This includes information, tools, insights, and a tiered approach to securing and enhancing the safety of school environments based on their individual needs, nationwide best practices, and the most effective use of available resources. PASS created and maintains the essential Safety and Security Guidelines for K-12 Schools (the “Guidelines”). Released in 2015 and updated regularly, the Guidelines identify and classify best practices for securing K-12 facilities in response to urgent needs for information identified by the education community; they also provide insight into how to increase involvement from key stakeholders, including community members, local law enforcement, parents, school board members, staff, and students.
