CHICAGO — Motorola Solutions — the walkie-talkie and bar-code-scanning portion of the old Motorola Inc. — will supply extra police radios, walkie-talkies and communications network capacity to help the city grapple with a deluge of dignitaries, visitors, protesters and others accessing the digital airwaves during the NATO summit.

“We are [donating] equipment that will let the city flex and expand its communications capacity,” said Motorola Solutions CEO Greg Brown following the company’s earnings news Wednesday.

The extra network capacity will let police and other public safety responders talk to each other in “mission critical” situations such a gathering requires, Brown said.
