DES MOINES, Iowa - Des Moines police are sporting a new badge that features a familiar site -- the Iowa Capitol.
The image of the Statehouse has returned to police badges in the capital after an 85-year absence. It follows a new police museum and a new historical book.
A star-shaped badge that featured the Statehouse was retired in 1920 when officers moved to a new headquarters. The new version is only the fifth design used by Des Moines police since 1869.
The new badges cost 48 dollars each. A matching cap shield is 27 dollars.
Outfitting the entire department of about 350 at once will cost close to 26-thousand dollars.
