CLIFTON, Texas — The Clifton Police Department in Texas is looking for new ways to boost recruitment amid an ongoing staff shortage. Their solution? A cadet program for citizens interested in becoming police officers.
“It is no secret that in recent months finding police officers has been tough. Clifton is in the same boat as many other law enforcement agencies,” the department said in a Facebook post.
The post went on to say that the department has struggled to fill two vacant positions since early last year.
“Due to the lack of qualified applicants, we have decided to take a different approach,” the department said. “This program will allow us to go out and find civilians who have always wanted to get into law enforcement but maybe didn’t know where to start.”
According to the release, the Clifton City Council recently approved the program, which will be the first of its kind in the city.
