(ORLEANS, Mass.) – A former police officer has been hospitalized for a psychiatric evaluation after being charged with kidnapping his ex-girlfriend.
Richard Stevens, 56, was arrested Monday. Investigators say that he went to her parents’ home in Chatham on Cape Cod and forced her into his car at gunpoint, driving her to her home in Orleans. When neighbors there called police about shots being fired, he allegedly returned the woman to her parents and disappeared.
Stevens had been a police officer in two Cape Cod towns, Brewster and Chatham. He pleaded not guilty during a court appearance after his arrest.
