Deseret Morning News (Salt Lake City)

A U.S. Secret Service agent had his gun and handcuffs stolen while working out at a Murray gym Wednesday.

Sometime between 7:30 and 8 a.m., someone smashed out the driver’s side window of the agent’s car in the parking lot of Gold’s Gym on the Van Winkle Highway and grabbed a bag that was sitting on the front seat, said Murray police detective Kenny Bass.

Inside the bag was the agent’s gun, handcuffs and nightstick of the, he said.

Investigators believe the thief likely just got lucky in his smash-and-grab burglary and was not specifically targeting the agent and probably didn’t expect to find what he did.Secret

Still, police would like to get those items back as quickly as possible.
