(TUCSON, Ariz.) -- A man who was cleared on charges of aggravated assault against a deputy is suing Pima County for being shot and slapped after he lead police on a 17-mile high-speed chase.
Michael Kollmann, 27, is suing the county for unspecified damages, naming Deputies Christopher Rogers and Joseph Harvey in the complaint, according to records reported by the Arizona Republic.
Kollmann was shot by Roger on Dec. 28, 1999 because, according to the deputy, he was trying to run him down in a stolen car.
A jury acquitted Kollmann of aggravated assault, but convicted him of felony fleeing and he faces seven years in prison when he is sentenced next month, the Republic reported.
An internal sheriff’s office investigation found no wrongdoing on the part of either deputy, although Harvey admitted in court that he slapped the wounded Kollmann repeatedly after he was in custody to keep him from losing consciousness, according to the Republic.
Kollmann, however, maintains that he was hit twice in the back of the head with the butt of a shotgun and slapped repeatedly during questioning.
