BROOKLYN: One man was killed and an off-duty correction officer was wounded in a shooting last night in front of a liquor store in Stuyvesant Heights, the police said.

About 8 p.m., officers were called to 616 Halsey Street, where they said they found a 35-year-old man who had been shot in the back. He was taken to St. John’s Episcopal Hospital, where he died about 9 p.m., the authorities said.

The off-duty correction officer, a captain, was found with gunshot wounds to his arm and side, the police said, and was taken to Kings County Hospital Center, where he was in stable condition last night.

The police, who did not release the names of the victims, were seeking three men in the shooting, which they said may have taken place during a robbery attempt. A gun was recovered at the scene.
