Video: Suspect rams cruiser, leads Fla. officers on high-speed pursuit with baby in car

The driver fled after reversing into a Marion County Sheriff’s Office cruiser multiple times, eventually crashing through a fence and going airborne before being apprehended

OCALA, Fla. — The Marion County Sheriff’s Office released body camera footage showing a man who had an infant in the car with him ramming a cruiser before fleeing from officers, WFTV reported.

The incident occurred June 27 when a deputy pulled over a silver Kia for having dark-tinted windows and a license plate obscured by a decorative ring. Video shows the driver pulling into a parking spot.

As the deputy approached, the driver reversed into the patrol car twice despite verbal commands to exit the vehicle.

The suspect then re-parked, reversed a second time into the deputy’s vehicle, and eventually accelerated forward, striking the front of the patrol car. The deputy took cover and continued issuing commands as the suspect’s tires spun while pushing another parked car.

The suspect was eventually able to maneuver the vehicle past the patrol car, at which point he reversed quickly and hit a tree. He then fled, crashing through a fence before traveling at high speeds down residential streets.

The suspect vehicle can be seen going airborne as it crossed a busier intersection going at least 70 mph. The suspect then passed another car on a grassy shoulder before making a left turn and nearly losing control of the vehicle.

The pursuing deputy performed a PIT maneuver, spinning the car and moving in front of it to block it. The suspect was able to turn the vehicle and drive it into a backyard, before climbing out and attempting to flee on foot.

The suspect fled through several yards before surrendering to officers.

Deputies discovered a baby in the back seat of his car. No injuries were reported, and the incident remains under investigation.
