Police1 Staff Report
(BATTLE GROUND, Wash.) -- A man who tried to run an officer over with his car was found hiding in a tree and captured, police said.
Trent Gene Luxton, 24, was arrested and charged with being a fugitive from justice, resisting arrest and being in possession of a stolen car.
An officer first approached Luxton when he saw the suspect lying down in a car in residential driveway in Blaine at 1:30 a.m. on Nov. 8. When the officer asked Luxton to sit up and show his hands, the suspect allegedly started the car and drove it straight at the officer, according to press reports.
The officer was able to avoid the car and fired one shot before the suspect fled.
The car was identified later as a stolen vehicle.
Gas station attendants in Battle Ground, who recognized Luxton from police reports, spotted the suspect and alerted police that he was in the area.
When police arrived Luxton fled on foot and was tracked up a tree by a dog in the Clark County K-9 unit, police said.
Although no shots were fired, police said they did find a handgun on the suspect when they arrested him.
Luxton is being held without bail.
