Police1 Staff Report
(SAN DIEGO, Calif.) -- A handcuffed drug suspect managed an escape worthy of Harry Houdini, slipping out of the back of a locked patrol car.
The San Diego Union Tribune reported that an officer left James Steven Moreno in his car parked in the sally port at police headquarters Thursday morning. When the officer returned from turning in drugs he had impounded, Moreno was gone.
A search of downtown San Diego using cars, officers on foot and a sheriff’s department helicopter failed to find the missing man.
Moreno faced a charge of possession of methamphetamine. When last seen, the heavily tattooed suspect was wearing black pants, a green shirt and handcuffs.
