In most cases a suspect is not going to be happy when he realizes he’s going to be arrested. Sometimes that moment of realization can result in flight, attack or some other form of stepped up resistance. If you’re working with a partner, consider creating a code word or phrase that will tip him or her off to the fact that you’re about to effect that arrest. This way he or she can be prepared to react to a suspect’s response instead of potentially being caught off guard when you do decide to effect the arrest. Better for your partner to know what’s about to happen before the suspect does.
