CHICAGO — A Chicago police captain was in serious condition late Tuesday after he was shot during a standoff with a suspect wanted in a series of weekend shootings in Indianapolis.

Daniel Brown, 42, was wanted on attempted murder charges in connection with the death of his fiancée’s friend, according to Fox News. Indianapolis police say Brown also carjacked a man, shot two other people, and drove to Chicago in a tractor-trailer he had stolen from his work place.

U.S. Marshals tracked brown to his sister’s home in Englewood, where a standoff took place.

Capt. Ed Kulbida was shot by a suspect in the first floor of the apartment building where Brown was staying. Kulbida was hit in the shoulder and suffered a graze wound to the head.

Hostage negotiators tried talking to Brown and a second man, to no avail. One man was taken into custody and a second man was found dead, according to the report.

It is unclear how the man was killed or whether the man in custody is Brown.
