At least one current and one former Boone County Sheriff’s Department employee had their Social Security numbers published by the hackers. Other employees had home addresses and personal email addresses published.

Sheriff Dwayne Carey said so few deputies from his department had their Social Security numbers published because the department does not participate in the association’s online training program. That program is the reason the association had the Social Security numbers, he said.

Brooks-Jeffery Marketing Inc. hosts the website. A spokeswoman declined to comment yesterday afternoon. Ron Carroll, training director for the association, said his office is receiving little information about the attack. He said the FBI is investigating. Association Executive Director Michael Covington could not be reached for comment.

A group called AntiSec, which took responsibility for the attacks, opposes the computer security industry. AntiSec wrote that the attack is in response to recent arrests of members of another hacking group, Anonymous. The group demands prosecutors immediately drop all charges.

On its website, the hacker group listed accessing the association’s online academy training files as one of its major accomplishments. The group also claims to have accessed more than 70 other law enforcement websites.
