DALLAS — Dallas police were called to a northwest Dallas RaceTrac where the shooting victim drove to.

A gunman on a hoverboard shot a driver who offered him a ride early Thursday in northwest Dallas and got away.

Officers responded about 4:15 a.m. to the RaceTrac gas station in the 2800 block of West Northwest Highway, where the man had driven after being shot.

The wounded driver said he twice approached the suspect near Bachman Lake and asked if he needed a ride, according to police. After the second encounter, the suspect appeared angry and asked the driver why he was following him — then pulled out a gun and opened fire.

The man was riding a hoverboard, a kind of self-balancing scooter.

“The suspect then fled the location on foot,” police said in a written release. “It is unclear if the suspect was on the hoverboard when he shot the victim.”

The victim was taken to a local hospital with a gunshot wound in the right arm, Dallas police spokeswoman Tramese Andrews said.

The gunman was described as a black man with dreadlocks and wearing a red shirt.
