A recent intelligence bulletin, forwarded to me by Senior Training Deputy John Williams with the L.A. County Sheriff’s Department, warns that a new Meth manufacturing process is resulting in dangerous byproducts being left in common two-liter soft drink bottles. The chemicals, which include ethyl ether and lithium, appear to be murky sludge submerged in dirty water. The seemingly harmless appearance may entice a civilian — or even a law enforcement officer — to pick up the bottle and out of natural, common curiosity sniff it.
“What you don’t want to do is go up there, open [the bottle] and smell it or get it on your hands,” cautions Assistant Special Agent in Charge Bill Bryant from the Little Rock, Ark. DEA office.
Along these lines, here are 10 things NOT TO DO, shared from an earlier tip as a related reminder. If you run into a Meth lab or Meth-making chemicals, DON’T:
1.) Taste
2.) Touch
3.) Smell
4.) Pour
5.) Jiggle, swirl, or mix
6.) Smoke in the area.
7.) Throw light switches
8.) Unplug or plug in
9.) Rub your eyes, nose, or mouth
10.) Forget about guard dogs, booby traps, or lookouts
