DETROIT — A Detroit police officer was fired Monday following a controversial Snapchat post over the weekend, the Detroit News reported.
The post showed Bostwick in uniform with a caption that read “another night to [wrangle] up these zoo animals.”
Bostwick was suspended on Sunday. Following the announcement of his suspension, he met with Detroit Police Chief James Craig and a union representative, according to the Detroit News.
Bostwick was fired the next day.
“He was terminated,” Chief Craig announced Monday during a conference. “Tomorrow, he will no longer be a Detroit police officer. He is clear on that.”
Chief Craig said during the conference that Bostwick regretted making the post and didn’t intend to cause controversy.
“He took responsibility for it,” Chief Craig said. “He admitted that he did this. He said he didn’t mean it the way it came off.”
Bostwick had been in the field for about two months. He had been on the force for about 18 months, but most of that was spent at the police academy due to low test scores, the Detroit News reported Chief Craig said.
