BOISE, Idaho (AP) -- A coroner’s inquest has concluded Milton Sanchez killed himself and his wife during a shootout with police.
The Ada County jury also ruled on Thursday that police officers acted appropriately in the April 9 chase through town which ended on a Boise Airport runway. The inquest wrapped up after three days of testimony.
Milton and Melody Sanchez were suspects in two armed robberies in Boise. An informant notified police on April 8 the couple was on its way to rob a restaurant.
Police tried to stop the Sanchezes early April 9, but they sped off. The officers chased them to the airport, firing 30 shots at their van on the tarmac.
Police bullets hit Melody, 32, in the leg and Milton, 40, in the upper torso. But forensic reports indicate each died from a single gunshot wound to the head from a .38-caliber handgun that matched one found in the van, according to Ada County Critical Incident Task Force report issued in October.
The jury did not recommend any additional investigation into the deaths, Ada County Coroner Erwin Sonnenberg said.
