LINCOLN, Neb. — A Nebraska state senator is in hot water over anti-police comments in which he compared officers to the Islamic State extremist group.

The World-Herald reports State Senator Ernie Chambers said, “My ISIS is the police,” and that “The police are licensed to kill us. Children. Old people.”

Chambers made the remarks during a hearing on a concealed gun bill Friday. The senator has reportedly been a vocal critic of the police force in Omaha.

Nebraska Governor Pete Ricketts requested that Chambers issues a public apology on Thursday — one of many officials to condemn the comments, including Omaha Police Chief Todd Schmaderer and Omaha Mayor Jean Stothert, according to the report.
