FREDERICTON (CP) -- Police said Wednesday they’ve dismantled a major drug ring operating in New Brunswick and Quebec.

RCMP arrested 17 people from the Acadian Peninsula, Moncton, and the St.Antoine area in New Brunswick as well as in Montreal, a news release said.

The offences included trafficking and possession of cocaine and marijuana, and money laundering.

RCMP spokesman Gary Cameron said the investigation focused on a criminal organization responsible for the distribution of a large portion of cocaine used in eastern New Brunswick.

Police said the drugs are believed to have come from the Montreal area.

Most of those charged are to appear in provincial court in Caraquet, N.B., on Wednesday.
