MOORE, Okla. — A police K-9 was found dead Saturday night after someone appeared to enter the backyard of its handler and open his pen.
Investigators are working to determine what happened to Bak, a 5-year-old German Shepherd, KFOR reported. His body was discovered along a highway and police are unsure if there was malicious intent, which authorities said is not altogether uncommon.
“Unfortunately, K-9s are targets,” Lt. Ted Belling said. “It does happen periodically.”
The 5-year old German Shepherd was in service for 3 years with the Moore Police Department and aided in building searches and sniffing for narcotics.
“We couldn’t determine exactly what happened to him and we are bringing in a veterinarian who specializes in these types of investigations and he will be examining him to determine what happened.”
