OKEMAH — The Okfuskee County sheriff’s staff is mourning the death of a deputy killed Wednesday night in a fatal wreck, Sheriff Jack Choate said Thursday.
David Allford died in a crash on Interstate 40 while responding to assist an Oklahoma Highway Patrol trooper with an arrest.
“It’s just a sad situation for us,” Choate said.
Allford had been a deputy in the county for three years.
While responding to the call, Allford went off the road, struck a cable barrier and his vehicle overturned. He was ejected and pronounced dead at the scene, according to the Oklahoma Highway Patrol.
Paul Louis Toran Jr. was arrested on complaints of assault and battery on a peace officer, resisting arrest and driving under the influence, patrol spokesman Capt. George Brown said.
