SPRING HILL, Tenn. — A sheriff’s deputy was killed in a crash Tuesday while en route to aid another officer involved in a pursuit.
WKRN reports 42-year-old Deputy Darrell Perritt lost control of his vehicle and left the road – slamming into a tree on the driver’s side.
Deputy Perritt was killed instantly. A Tennessee Highway Patrol spokesman told WKRN that the female suspect involved in the pursuit may face charges in relation to the deputy’s death.
“If the individual was not fleeing, we would not have had this situation this morning,” spokesman Sgt. Bill Miller said.
Perritt had just become a full-time deputy three months ago – a lifelong dream – after working as a reserve deputy for two years, according to The Tennessean and WKRN.
He is survived by his wife, daughter and two sons.
