NASHVILLE. — A Hendersonville police officer was killed Monday night after being hit by a vehicle while involved in a foot pursuit of a subject across I-65, reports WTVF.
Master Patrol Officer Spencer Bristol was in pursuit of a vehicle with two occupants when the vehicle crashed. One of the suspects was taken into custody, but the passenger fled the scene. Officer Bristol pursued the passenger on foot across I-65 southbound when he was hit by oncoming traffic. The subject he was pursuing remains at large.
“It’s been nearly 20 years since this department lost an officer in the line of duty and this was too soon for it to happen again,” said Hendersonville Police Chief Mickey Miller. “I never saw anyone who wanted to be a police officer as much as him. He was very proactive and very much wanted to do the right thing for this city and take care of this city.”
Officer Spencer was a U.S. Navy veteran and had served with the Hendersonville Police Department for four years. He is survived by his wife and 3-year-old daughter, reports ODMP.
