SEDGWICK COUNTY, Kan. — A Sedgwick County sheriff’s deputy and a male suspect were in serious condition Monday night after both were shot following a traffic pursuit that ended in Butler County, officials said.
The deputy was taken to Wesley Medical Center in “code yellow” condition — meaning potentially serious injuries — and the male suspect was taken to the hospital with “code red,” or critical, injuries, a Sedgwick County emergency dispatch supervisor said late Monday night. The deputy reportedly suffered a shotgun blast and the male suspect a gunshot wound, the supervisor said.
On Monday night, investigators were working four separate scenes connected to the incident, the sheriffs said. “There were some traffic violations,” Herzet said. “The deputy tried to stop the vehicle, and it started driving at a very high rate of speed. The chase terminated … The deputy was shot.”
