DENVER — A police sergeant who was shot and wounded during a traffic stop threw the first pitch during the Rockies’ home opener Friday, the Denver Post reported.
Sgt. Tony Lopez Jr. was shot at least eight times during a December traffic stop. Aided by crutches and a leg brace, he made his way onto the field and threw the ceremonial first pitch as the crowd applauded.
Lopez was critically injured in the Dec. 8 shootout with 35-year-old Jason Wood. He underwent multiple surgeries for wounds to the upper and lower parts of his body.
