WASHINGTON D.C. — A man was shot and wounded by D.C. police in Northeast Washington last night after he allegedly pointed a gun at officers, a police official said.

The shooting occurred about 9:30 p.m. near 18th and Rosedale streets, Assistant Police Chief Diane Groomes said.

The extent of the man’s wounds could not be learned immediately.

Groomes said members of a gun recovery unit were on patrol when they approached three men near 17th Street and Eames Place. One of them ran off with a gun in his hand, she said.

Two officers chased the man, and when he allegedly turned toward them and pointed the gun, one of the officers fired, Groomes said. She described his weapon as a TEC-9, which is sometimes described as an assault pistol.
