DETROIT — A Detroit officer remains in critical condition after being shot in the head while responding to a domestic violence call.
The Detroit News reports that Officer Glenn Doss, 25, was among the officers responding to a domestic violence call Wednesday at a residence when the suspect fired at them. Doss, who was a passenger in a patrol vehicle, was struck in the head. He was rushed to a hospital and underwent surgery.
“He’s still very critical,” Detroit Police Chief James Craig said Friday. “We’re hoping and praying that he just continues to improve. It’s a tough time.”
The suspect, identified as 43-year-old DeCharlos Brooks, barricaded himself into the home until police used a chemical agent to force him out and arrest him, according to WJBK.
Craig said he’s been in touch with Doss’ father, who is also a Detroit officer, and his family. A GoFundMe page was set up to raise money for Doss’ girlfriend and their 9-month-old son.
