KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Kansas City police say an officer suffered minor injuries when he was accidentally shot by a fellow officer while trying to apprehend a suspect.

Capt. Rich Lockhart said the officers were investigating a report of a man shooting a rifle in the street Saturday morning.

When police arrived, the 22-year-old man was in the street with the gun, but then ran into a house.

Lockhart says as the officers were surrounding the house, one officer accidentally shot the other officer. The 28-year-old officer was shot in the left thumb and had injuries to his face.

The suspect with the rifle was taken into custody and faces charges for discharging a firearm within the city limits.
