STATESBORO, Ga. — A Georgia officer was shot to death in an apparent murder-suicide, according to authorities.
On Easter morning, Statesboro police responded to shots fired at a home and found Advanced Patrol Officer Ian Huggins with multiple gunshot wounds, according to a Statesboro PD press release. Moments after police entered the home, Huggins’ wife took her own life.
EMS and officers attempted to revive Huggins and his wife before transporting them to a hospital, where they were pronounced dead. The Statesboro PD turned the investigation over to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation.

Huggins and his wife were married on Feb. 14, 2018.
In a Facebook post, Statesboro PD said Huggins began his LE career with the department in 2013 and had been consistently recognized for his “professionalism” and “compassion.” Huggins leaves behind a son and daughter.
“We would like to ask everyone to keep our Statesboro Police Department family in your thoughts and prayers. Ian was a good officer and an even better friend, and we feel his loss deeply. Our hearts are broken,” the department said.
Additional details about the incident were not immediately released.
