A man suspected in two bank robberies was shot dead by San Antonio police officers Tuesday night.

Tips led police to a suspected drug house in the 500 block of Blue Bonnet where the suspect told police he wasn’t going to go quietly and he was going to shoot it out with them.

Police said earlier in the day, the man robbed a bank on W.W. White. He wrestled the gun away from the security guard in the parking lot and then got away.

Police also said the man later robbed an IBC Bank branch on Southeast Military Drive. This time he used the gun taken from the first robbery, police said.

The police got a search warrant for the suspected drug house on Blue Bonnet after tipsters said the man was there bragging about the robberies. When police confronted the man, he said he was not going with them.

Although the suspect did not fire a shot, police said he was a dangerous man.

“The suspect was violent. He made threats that he was going to shoot it out with police. We knew he was armed. It was reported to us that he bought narcotics earlier in the day, and he was under the influence of those narcotics,” said Sgt. Gabe Trevino, spokesman for the San Antonio Police Department.

Officers also arrested other men and a woman at the house on Blue Bonnet. The woman may have been the get away driver during the bank robberies, officials said.

Following standard procedure, the two officers involved in the shooting have been placed on administrative leave until an investigation can be completed.
