LAREDO, Texas — Surveillance video captured an officer-involved shooting Saturday of a man armed with a pellet gun.

The New York Daily News reports police received a call of a man armed with a gun at a truck stop in Laredo, Texas, early Saturday morning.

Six officers opened fire on 30-year-old Jose Walter Garza after arriving on-scene.

Police later discovered Garza was carrying a “semi-automatic replica” gun that fired pellets, department spokesman Joe E. Baeza told the publication.

Police can be seen kicking away the pellet gun in the video after Garza is downed by a hail of gunfire.

Garza died on the scene.

Family members told the Daily News that Garza was taking medication for schizophrenia. It is not clear if he was on the medication at the time of the shooting.

The family also claims over 80 shots were fired in the incident, and that they believe the shooting was excessive. The amount of shots fired has not been officially released.

Garza had been arrested by the department nearly 30 times prior, according to the report, including on charges of assault of a public servant.

Police are currently investigating the shooting. No officers were injured in the incident.
