PHOENIX, Ariz. — The Phoenix Police Department has released body worn camera footage from a fatal officer-involved shooting of a man who shot an officer in the leg, KPNX reported.
The incident occurred Jan. 5 when officers were looking to apprehend a suspected “prohibited possessor” of a firearm with an outstanding felony warrant. Phoenix police located the suspected, identified as Junior Reyes, 30, and tried to take him into custody, according to the report.

Body camera video shows officers with guns drawn surrounding Reyes. Reyes can be seen drawing a handgun from his waistband and shooting at an officer who was holding a less lethal foam projectile launcher.
The body camera footage from the officer who was shot shows that he ran to take cover inside a garage while shots can be heard in the background. Another body camera shows an officer firing several shots at Reyes with a handgun, bringing him to the ground as he tried to run away.
The officer who was shot in the lower leg during the incident is expected to make a full recovery, according to the report. Reyes died after being transported to a hospital.
