TERRE HAUTE, Ind. — A Terre Haute woman faces a fourth allegation of stalking in addition to battery by bodily waste after she allegedly defecated on a police officer during her arrest Tuesday.

Jean Somers, 51, appeared Wednesday morning in Vigo Superior Court Division 1, where Judge Michael Eldred stated that a warrant for stalking had been issued for incidents that occurred from Sept. 5-25. Somers allegedly continued to harass a person by leaving notes and other items in her car, making telephone calls and texting her, following her and confronting her at church.

When officers from the Vigo County Sheriff’s and Terre Haute Police departments went to Somers’ home to serve the warrant, she struggled as they tried to place her in handcuffs. She also allegedly pulled down her pants and defecated on an officer’s leg and on the floor. That incident led to additional criminal charges of battery by bodily waste and resisting law enforcement, both class-D felonies. Stalking is also a class-D felony, which carries a possible sentence of six months to three years in prison.

Somers has past arrests in 1994, 2004 and 2005 for stalking, as well as convictions for invasion of privacy, battery and resisting law enforcement.

Eldred appointed attorney Luther Garcia as her public defender, and set bail at $35,000 with no 10 percent allowed.

Eldred also ordered a jail physician to evaluate Somers immediately for psychiatric treatment.
