HOLLYWOOD, Fla. — An officer has been deemed the Boynton Beach Police Department’s “official alligator wrestler” after wrangling an alligator on a home’s front porch.
Officer Alfredo Vargas responded to the home on July 10 after the homeowner called about the animal near the front door, ABC News reported. Vargas decided to take matters into his own hands after the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission said a trapper wouldn’t arrive for another 30 minutes.
Vargas’ body camera shows the officer attempt to lasso the alligator with a noose attached to a pole. He fails a couple of times, but eventually grabs the animal and tapes its mouth shut.
Vargas put the animal in the back of his patrol car and took it to a nearby canal where he released it.
Police said Vargas was trained by the local alligator rescue on how to handle nuisance alligators and return them to their natural habitats.
