PRIOR LAKE, Minn. — In April, Steve and Melanie Anderson received a call from a Lakeville daycare that their daughter had stopped breathing, according to KMSP.

AllieAnn passed away from Sudden Infant Death Syndrome eight days after she turned 1.

“When I arrived at the scene, there were already six police officers there and you could tell by looking at them that it’s not good news,” Melanie told the news station.

Seeking a fresh start, the couple moved to Prior Lake. But Lakeville police kept the Andersons in their thoughts.

On Dec. 20, the Andersons welcomed a newborn daughter. Two days later, Lakeville Detective Kelly paid the couple a visit.

The detective remembered Melanie was close to her due date and brought a card, challenge coin, and a squad car bouncer for their daughter.

The family didn’t want the kind gesture by Lakeville police to go unnoticed.

“Small, little gestures like this, they deserve kudos, they deserve to be acknowledged,” Steve said.
