NEW YORK — Michael Lodespoto calls them “my angels” — four strangers who came to his rescue after he “crumpled and fell” off a Brooklyn subway platform and lay unconscious and bleeding on the tracks.
“They’re special men. They’re a part of my life now,” said Lodespoto, of Long Island, who passed out as he stood on the Atlantic Avenue platform in Downtown Brooklyn on Aug. 13.
Retired NYPD Officer Brenden Crowe, 50, along with an unidentified man, jumped onto the tracks, although they could see the lights of an approaching train.
Crowe, who is now a court security officer for the US Attorney’s Office, knew he’d need help to lift Lodespoto and yelled, “All you men, get down here now!”
Jay Schneider, 43, of North Merrick, an air-conditioning mechanic, jumped down to the tracks. “I saw the opportunity to help,” he said.
James Dolan, 53, an NYC Transit security and safety specialist, directed another NYCT worker “to make sure the train stopped,” then jumped to the tracks.
The four lifted Lodespoto to the platform.
