GOSHEN, Ind. — A memorial honoring the lives of officers killed in the line of duty outside of the Goshen Police Department was vandalized overnight.
The police department posted on Facebook Monday afternoon indicating that it was vandalized sometime the night before.
The memorial is in front of the Goshen police station at 111 E. Jefferson St. It had one of its planters overturned and a glass lantern broken, according to the post.
The planters, made of cement, are too heavy to be overturned by the wind. In the police department’s Facebook photo one of the planters appears to be upside down, the poinsettias planted in them showing from underneath.
“How sad that our memorial honoring our fallen brother would be the target of a pathetic vandal,” the Facebook post read.

The memorial honors officer Thomas Goodwin, who was fatally shot in Brookside Manor Mobile Home Park Dec. 11, 1998 when he and other officers responded to reports of shots fired.
The police department recently wrote a post on Facebook observing the 17-year anniversary of Goodwin’s death.
A request to the police department asking for further comment was declined.
